We are offering every Wednesday and Saturday the soldering classes. Three stations open to first come first serve each day. Advanced booking helps you and me. Learn soldering, forming, texturing and bezel setting.
Class pics.
1st Soldering Class--take wire and turn it into a charm bracelet. It's mainly about soldering but some other jewelry making tools you will learn to use(scribe, vise, files, sandpaper and flush cutter). $75.00 for a 4 hour class-includes: tool use, instruction and your choice of 20ga Sterling or 14ga Copper. If you wish a different gauge in sterling, an additional charge would be added. If you don't finish within the 4 hours and wish to continue, studio rental runs $15 per hour.
We are also offering studio time on saturdays and sundays for $15 per hour. This fee covers tool rental, jewelers bench space and some instruction.
Metalsmithing carries with it some potential dangers. To minimize the possibility of injury or damage, we are asking you to and abide by the following rules and practices.
Protective gear: You must wear protective eye wear and apron(provided for you). Your clothing should fit close to your body and your hair should be pulled back or covered. Your clothing should be cotton and you should not use hair spray or other flammable hair products.
Use of the torch: You must always be aware of wether your torch is on or off and where it is pointed. Always work on fire-proof surface and return the soldering tool to its position and pointed away from you when not in use. Always refill torch outside to avoid making fumes.
Hygiene: There are fumes produced by soldering and flux. You should be careful not to breathe these and also to avoid getting the flux on your skin or in your eyes. Do not eat or drink while you are soldering and wash your hands before putting them in your eyes or mouth and after you have finished your task.
Burn prevention: Do not touch the tip of your torch, or the area just soldered.
Depending on the project, other safety rules may be made at the discretion of the instructor. These rules are for your safety and must be followed. Should your instructor deem you to be a danger to yourself, others or property, you will be dismissed from the class with no refund.
Please, NO loose clothing, (clothing should be made of natural fibers: wool, cotton, etc, not of synthetic products.)NO long sleeves and long hair must be tied back. Wearing jewelry during class is not advisable.
2nd Solder Class-
Learn to make a Toggle Clasp in Sterling Silver: Use a jewelers saw, metal hole punch, bezel making, sweat soldering, cabochon setting, texturing with a mill and what you just might not know.
Come join us-$92.00 includes, sterling silver, semi precious stone, use of jewelers bench and tools-should take less than 3 hours.
Safety instructions the same as above.
Third Soldering Class
Learn Cabochon bezel making and make a three wire bracelet or a three band ring.
$75.00 class fee plus $42.00 for material-sterling silver plus stone.
Soldering class 1 and 2 a prerequisite.
